It is that time of year again! We are excited to share the Curiosity Lab Criterium will be returning to Peachtree Corners on Sunday, April 28, 2024. This U.S. Pro Cycling Race is a part of Speed Week, which is a series of cycling races that showcase USA CRITS Division 1 cycling teams across three states. The Criterium series starts in Athens, Georgia on April 24 and ends in Sandy Springs, Georgia on May 21.
Located at Peachtree Corners City Hall, the Curiosity Lab Criterium begins at 10 am and ends at 8:30 pm. This all-day family-friendly event includes men’s, women’s and children’s races, and even pro cycling. In 2024, Peachtree Corners is also including a 1.2-mile run competition that will include some of the top runners in the southeast.
Outside of the cycling and running events, there will be a variety of vendors and food trucks for the entire family to enjoy. Food and drink vendors include Flavor on the Fork, Tex’s Tacos, Grubbin’ Out, La Nina Michoacana, Peachtree Growler and more. There will also be multiple technology and local business vendors for race attendees to enjoy as well. Peachtree Corners has even included a ‘Family Fun Zone’ with bouncy houses, slides and more that is sure to add to the fun!
Similar to last year, the Curiosity Lab Criterium is more than a Pro Cycling race. This is an opportunity for the Curiosity Lab smart city ecosystem to showcase the latest in vulnerable road user (VRU) technologies from private sector V2X and sensor innovators, OEMs, hardware and software manufacturers, government transportation officials, bike companies, trade associations, advocacy groups and more that promote roadway safety. VRU technologies are meant to protect all who are considered vulnerable on our roadways, from cyclists to pedestrians to runners and more in effort to save lives. This year, we will be showcasing cyclist safety technology by company Spoke, which uses Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) technology. This technology protects both cyclists and vehicles by connecting them to the mobility ecosystems that surround them and ensures that both parties can see the other way ahead of time, to prevent injury and death.
Partnered with Audi, Spoke will showcase its C-V2X unit live to demonstrate how this technology works using Audi’s vehicle-based C-V2X technology. Spoke’s C-V2X unit alerts vehicles where a biker is in relation to their vehicle, what direction they are coming from and if they are moving or stopped. Spoke units are about the size of an iPhone and can also be placed on motorcycles and pedestrians, making this a game-changing application of C-V2X technology that will work to save lives across the country.
