How to Prepare
A few days before your appointment
- Add iron‑rich foods – spinach, beans, lean meats, fortified cereals — to your meals to keep hemoglobin levels strong.
Twenty‑four hours before donating
- Drink extra water and go easy on caffeine or alcohol. Proper hydration speeds the process and helps you feel better afterward.
On donation day
- Bring a photo ID (driver’s license, donor card, or other government‑issued ID).
- Have a list of any prescriptions or over‑the‑counter medications you take.
- Wear a short‑sleeve shirt or something with sleeves that roll up easily.
After your donation
- Rest at the refreshment area for 10–15 minutes, enjoy a snack, and keep hydrating through the evening.
- Avoid heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for the rest of the day.
